The young badger that died today was the 24th (KNOWN) this year.
Compared to previous years at this time the following were the total losses:
2023 13
2024 8
2025 28
The figure would have been higher but no location or date given by some means a report is not registered.
In none of the badger deaths reported has a driver stopped to check or reported hitting a badger. In the UK they rarely report hitting deer and foxes and hedgehogs as well as otters are just "road nuisances".
Occasionally some kind soul will stop and move an animal off the road for which they deserve thanks -drivers seeing a dead animal onb the road simply drive over it with no concern.
The UK is NOT a nation of animal lovers.
